thesis Question

At this point I can honestly say that the the thesis question has to ave two parts to it. The parts are art and remediation with a digital aspect. I think it is very narrow minded to think that digital is not an form of art. Remediation explores the ways of look at the how to define new media. It looks at ways to explore old media into new media. Art is always being redefined. how do we see art, what is the function of art, why does art change; these question are some of the basis of how we define art. As an extension, we continue to explore new ways to create art. How does our, american, perspective of art change when it is remediated through digital means?

mechanical age

The mechanical age is the paradigm that came before this one, defined in the book "About Face 3 The Essentials of Interaction Design". The book "About Face 3 The Essentials of Interaction Design" is talking aobut how people respond to and inter with the world around us. They make the argument that the "It is only natural for us to try to draw the imagery and language of an earlier era that we are comfortable with into a new, less certain one." The piont is that people want to develop in a new age with new ideas and technology, but they feel safe in the old age that they know works. "For example, we called railroad engines iron horses and automobiles were labeled horseless carriages." This was of talking about the mechanical age brings with it considerations of how to develop for the new age. People are so wrapped up with the thoughts old that the new media reflects old media. Remediation takes these thoughts old and twists them to the into a new idea. The mechanical age is still what people develop for with new ideas.

In the video the future of the book, IDEO explains how they intend to create a user experiences in a book. They add interactive elements into how the user reads the book. Each product adds different interactivity to the mix of how a person would read the book. IDEO adds more personality to the act of reading. http://vimeo.com/15142335

If you pull back and look at the big picture they creating a remediation of a book with real time internet capabilities. I think its a great idea, but the fact is that to create a new media they used old media as a means to the end. The social implacation of creating media through remediation can be seen as a evolution to media. We take baby steps forward until the next big thing happens. This changes our views of interaction and creates new way to design. The development of media in the next age will mirror how when see and develop in this age.

What is ?

NEW MEDIA OLD MEDIA AND REMEDIATION

In my research I have found that people define new media as digital media. It is define as a term that has been use scene the late 20th century, to define the electronic digital age of media; websites, chat rooms, interactive computer and communications technology. New media is the defines how people live and are influnced today. New media creates a way to define how the media was before them. The "old" media is seen as print, television, radio, ect.

The old media creates ways to view New media. Through remediation old media and new media collide. It creates a new form of new media. Its the rehashing of technology that make innovation possible.

The remediation of media is a reuse of old media seen is a new way. The remediation of technology leads to new way to see the evolution of technology. It is through this evolution that people evolve the standards of tech. The book on a kindle or the ipad can be seen as remediation of the printed word. Remediation is a stepping stone to create new media and new ways to think about media. “the ‘content’ of any medium is always another medium. The content of writing is speech, just as the written word is the content of print, and print is the content of the telegraph” {McLuhan, Understanding Media}. It is through these terms that new media is created. We look to the past to create new innovation thought. The remediation of media to create new media blurs the line between updated media and new media.

Practices

The second chapter of Talent Is Not Enough describes a solid way to job hunt. It informs the reader how to go about preparing for all parts of the job hunting processes. It is almost a tip and trick guide to job hunting. The chapter starts by asking the simple question, what kind of job are you looking for within the design field? It creates the explanation of why we start this journey toward a career.

The chapter goes through everything from portfolios to job hunting sights; form salaries to interviewing. It talks about transition and what to do once hired. All the second chapter is road sign in how to conduct and get a career.

There where two part that I really enjoyed in this read. One was the actual process of where to look for jobs, the other was the process to find a suited salary for your position. They both are good explanations of what you are do and why you it in this way. The process of job hunting is long and tedious process that can end badly if you do it wrong or don't take the steps to know you stuff.

The other was what how to arrive at the salary price. I agree with Asterisk's contention of what people forget about a salary. It is a bargain. You have to haggle with the vendors to get the right price, but in this case we're not talking about 25 Eiffel tower key chains or $5. We're talking about to make a good offer that will be accepted or countered, and it you don't know what you should know to back it up and you might end up under paid.

I think the reading was a very helpful tool. It shows what you think you know is not enough. You have make the effort to go further to see what is unknown to make good candidate for any endeavor.

Remediation

Does the remediation of technology change the paradigm of the technology?

through the internet

through devices
